DBL has installed a state-of-the-art fuel monitoring system on its 11,000+ strong fleet of equipment and vehicles. Fuel is monitored using one of the 3 following methods:  

1. Monitoring consumption in fuel line
2. Monitoring level in the tank
3. Monitoring injector pulses

Fuel Monitoring system tracks vehicle engagement time and fuel consumption trends to improve fleet efficiency.

• Fuel intake and consumption are tracked using a GPS device.
• Fuel theft is prevented by fitting a mechanical device to the inlet manifold.
• Resource consumption is monitored by tagging equipment and fleets to respective projects
• Distance traveled and time engaged by fleet is tracked, thus arriving at fuel consumed.
• The GPS device keeps track of the equipment’s health to ensure optimum utilization of fuel.
• Alerts are sent when the equipment requires repairs or maintenance.

A road or highway under-construction can be a hubspot for accidents and hazards like material collapses, danger from cables, excavation related incidents, impact of dust and fumes or even accidents while manually handling equipment.

To protect employees and local populations from any such adversity, DBL adheres to a very strict Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policy. To minimize accidents on the road, the EHS policy complies with the following traffic managements requirements:  

1. Equipment and logistics drivers to have legal and compliant license.
2. Following speed limits.
3. Compulsory use of seat belts.
4. Load testing by a certified Subject Matter Expert (SME) for material handling equipment.
5. Providing warning signs and signals.
6. Providing regular training to drivers and operators.
7. Ensuring minimal mechanical defects in all equipment and vehicles.

DBL also creates a ’Safety Zone’ between live traffic lanes and the working area by:  

1. Providing portable vertical barriers to protect the workforce;
2. Access/egress locations for site transport are kept to a minimum.
3. Demarcation of the construction zone into four Sub Zones, as required under IRC: SP: 55 -2014:
   a. Advance Warning Sub-Zone
   b. Transition Sub-Zone
   c. Work Sub-Zone
   d. Termination Sub-Zone

A massive Blood Donation camp was held in Anakapalli Anandpuram project site with the slogan

"Beat  Air Pollution"

Plants, equipment, vehicles and manpower involved in construction are typically major sources of noise pollution. DBL monitors source and ambient noise levels with the help of a CPCB approved laboratory in all project locations. Diesel generator sets and equipment,at the site undergo maintenance every quarter to limit noise pollution.

A SDBL EHS engineer coordinates with third-party laboratories and ensures use of exhaustive sampling points, calibrated instruments and approved methods.

The following mitigation measures are addressed in the procedures:  

1. Effective noise abatement equipment is fitted to the exhausts of all construction plant, equipment and vehicles.
2. Qualified personnel are employed to carry out preventive and regular maintenance and repairs.
3. Stationary equipment such as generators and welding sets with exhaust pointing are placed at neutral locations.
4. Acoustic enclosures are erected.
5. Barriers are erected to stop unauthorized personnel from entering high noise level areas.
6. Compulsory ear protection areas are defined by erecting clear signs.
7. Appropriate ear protection is given to DG operators.
8. Vibrators have minimum noise and operators use required PPEs.
9. Breaking activities are isolated using suitable barriers.

DBL considers Environment Health and Safety (EHS) an integral part of its strategic development model. It is committed towards the environmental welfare, worker safety, and employee health. DBL’s project sites adhere to exacting regulatory and voluntary criteria as a demonstration of our commitment. DBL complies with environmental regulations applicable for construction sites, as stated in the Indian Constitution of States Article 51(G).

DBL, in the interests of responsible environmental management, is working to meet or exceed additional, self-imposed standards, including the adoption of applicable provincial and regional regulations. This means, if provincial, regional or municipal regulations or bylaws provide pertinent standards, DBL will  endeavor to meet those standards. DBL also requires tenants on Building and Other Construction Workers (Regulation of Employment and Conditions of Service) Act, 1996 and other Act, to meet the same standards.

47 DBL employees donated blood to the hospital. 146 employees underwent a free health checkup, conducted by Dr. Basappa (MBBS) And Dr. Kanchana (MBBS). This was conducted with NACCO (National AIDS Control Organization) and Government Hospital District Haveri. 

A free Health Check Up Camp for all Dilipbuildcon employees, their families and nearby villagers was organized in 20th June 2018 at DBL Site Camp. The camp was organized in association with  RG Stone Urology & Laparoscopy Hospital, Goa. The 5 team members of Hospital including one Physician, arrived at the camp at 09:30 AM. He discussed various issue of health with the doctors. Free Physical examination along with free Random Blood Sugar (RBS), Blood Pressure.

On the occasion of  “World Environment Day” Plantation Drive - Trees combat global warming by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, contribute to soil health, retain water, and cool overheated urban areas. Whether as a family project or an individual one, the point is to plant!
