New Delhi: To cater to the growing population of the fourth largest city of Gujarat and the increasing flow of air traffic in the region, the Airports Authority of India has undertaken the work for constructing a new Greenfield Airport in Rajkot scheduled to be operational by the end of this year.
With a project cost of Rs 1,405 crore, the new airport is envisioned to be a transportation hub for people traveling abroad from the state.

Rajkot in Gujarat is set to obtain a new "greenfield" airport by August 2022.The new airport is being constructed on the Ahmedabad-Rajkot highway on more than 1,000 hectares of land at an estimated cost of Rs 1,405 crore.

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has awarded a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) to Dilip Buildcon for the construction of a new greenfield airport at Hirasar, Rajkot in the Indian state of Gujarat.

Rajkot Greenfield International Airport, measuring 2,534 acres (10.25 km), will be situated 36 kilometers from the existing Rajkot Airport. It is planned as a single runway airport for the operation of ‘C’ category aircraft.
The airport will be capable of handling Airbus A320 Airbus A321 type of aircraft and will have a rainwater harvesting system, solar power system and a green belt along its periphery to act as a noise barrier.
